Perth Accommodation

Fremantle

Head by bus, train or ferry to funky Fremantle and its marinas, fresh seafood, boutique breweries and famous craft and produce market. Fremantle maintains much of the architectural detail from its 19th century origins, and is quite distinct from modern Perth. Built of the lovely local limestone, many of the original public buildings are now beautifully restored and offer the visitor a slice of history as well as an aesthetic pleasure. Visit the Round House, the Fremantle Arts Centre (www.fac.org.au) and the Whalers Tunnel, all in nineteenth-century buildings, or the Western Australian Maritime Museum (www.mm.gov.au) in its beautiful new building at Victoria Quay, voted by experts as one of the world’s best new museums.

Fremantle’s streets are alive with festivals (www.fremantlefestivals.com), markets and cafés. Just some of the festivals are:

  • Fremantle Childrens Fiesta (April)
  • Fremantle Heritage Festival (May/June)
  • Fremantle Street Arts Festival (Easter)
  • ntle Festival (November)
